What is Reiki?
- About Reiki & Holy Fire III® -
By Reiki.org (William Lee Rand)
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.
Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
During a meditation several years after developing Reiki, Mikao Usui decided to add the Reiki Ideals to the practice of Reiki. The Ideals came in part from the five principles of the Meiji emperor of Japan whom Mikao Usui admired. The Ideals were developed to add spiritual balance to Usui Reiki. Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience. In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.

According to a review of randomized trials trusted Sources, reiki may help to reduce pain and anxiety, though more research is needed. It may also help to reduce fatigue.
A 2015 study trusted Source found that people being treated for cancer who received distant reiki in addition to regular medical care had lower levels of pain, anxiety, and fatigue. These levels were significantly lower than the control group, who only received medical care. Participants had 30-minute sessions of distant reiki for five days.
In another 2015 study, researchers looked at the effects of reiki on women following cesarean delivery. They found that reiki significantly reduced pain, anxiety, and the breathing rate in women 1-2 days after having a cesarean delivery. The need for and the number of analgesic pain killers was also reduced. Reiki didn’t have an effect on blood pressure or pulse rate.
A 2018 study trusted Source compared the use of reiki to physiotherapy for relieving lower back pain in people with herniated disks. Both treatments were found to be equally effective at relieving pain, but reiki was more cost-effective and, in some cases, resulted in faster treatment.
Reiki helps to promote harmony and balance. It is an effective, non-invasive energy healing modality that enhances the body’s natural healing ability whilst energizing and promoting overall wellness. Reiki works directly on restoring balance on all levels and works directly on the problem and condition instead of just masking or relieving symptoms.
Reiki provides a space where you can be more aware of what is going on inside your body and mind. To learn to listen to your own body and make wise decisions regarding your well-being from this place. Being more present means you are in your body, which helps you to access even more that inner knowing and wisdom that we all have!
Reiki treatments can bring about a calmer and more peaceful state of being, in which a person is better able to cope with everyday stress. This mental balance also enhances learning, memory and mental clarity. Reiki can heal mental/emotional wounds and can help alleviate mood swings, fear, frustration and even anger. Reiki can also strengthen and heal personal relationships. Because Reiki enhances your capability to love, it can open you up to the people around you and help your relationships grow.
We spend so much time in the stress-reactive fight/flight phase that it becomes our ‘norm’ and our bodies literally forget how to return to balance. Reiki reminds our bodies how to shift into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest/digest) self-healing mode. It allows you to sleep better and digest better which is important to maintaining health and vitality. The more you are in this space, the more you can be active and productive without being stressed, exhausted or burnt out.
Reiki can support you in staying centred in the present moment rather than getting caught up in regrets about the past or anxieties about the future. It can strengthen your ability to accept and work with the way events are unfolding even when they don’t follow your desires or timetable. You begin to react to situations, people and yourself in a supportive way rather than acting out of habit.
The number one outcome of receiving a Reiki session is relaxation. When we’re relaxed, we sleep better, our bodies heal better, we think more clearly, and we relate to each other more genuinely. Often clients will experience deep relaxation during their Reiki session and sometimes a deep sleep during the session as well.
Reiki healing quickly returns you to your natural state or at least gets your body moving in the right direction. That means your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure improve. Breathing deeper and easier is one of the first things to happen during a self-practice or treatment received from someone else. When we breathe better, our minds naturally settle. Science supports that. As your respiration deepens your body moves into parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) dominance i.e. the rest/digest phase. Your body was made to function primarily in the rest/digest phase rather than the more commonly experienced fight/flight phase.
You do not need to be into spirituality to enjoy the benefits of Reiki. Yet, for many, they receive Reiki treatments to support themselves through their self-healing journey i.e. spiritual growth / personal development. Reiki addresses the whole person, rather than targeting individual symptoms. It can create profound, often subtle shifts from deep within your own being. What does that look like? Guidance about what to do around difficult situations can come more easily. Or it may inspire a change in attitude or belief about your situation. Suddenly, you see your condition from a fresh perspective and are able to deal with it in a more positive way. Or it might direct you to the right kind of action needed which is guided from within.
Reiki is a wonderful complement to conventional medicine and helps relax patients on the levels of the mind and physical body. When a patient is relaxed the healing process is accelerated. People sleep much better and are calmer following Reiki treatments. The beauty of Reiki is that it is non-invasive and is administered in a very gentle manner. The Reiki practitioner can give Reiki without touching the body in cases where patients have burns or major injuries. Reiki is safe to use if you have medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes or heart conditions. You may receive Reiki treatments if you are undergoing chemotherapy. Pregnant women can have Reiki treatments to support them through all stages of the pregnancy. Reiki is for everyone!
Many clients will learn Reiki for themselves by attending a Reiki Level 1 course (in which they can self-treat) so they can boost their own energy levels on a daily basis. Some are drawn to Reiki to support their physical healing, some want to delve deeper into their personal development and most have experienced the benefits of reiki and wish to be able to support themselves that way regularly.

Holy Fire® Reiki Overview
Holy Fire Reiki is a type of Reiki energy and a system of Reiki healing based on Holy Fire energy. As mentioned in the Bible, Holy Fire® energy has been active in the world since ancient times. Based on sessions with the late Janice Jones, a spiritual adviser, our understanding is that God, working through the Holy Spirit created Holy Fire® energy and Jesus is the one who first brought this healing energy to the Earth. While the words Jesus, God and Holy Spirit, are used in religion, in the practice of Holy Fire® Reiki we do not consider them to be religious, but instead, consider them to be spiritual in nature.
It is important to keep in mind that the entire Holy Fire® Reiki system is not something I designed or created, but something that came to me as part of healing sessions I had with two talented spiritual healers who channeled illumined beings.
While Jesus was the spiritual master who introduced Holy Fire® Reiki, he is also part of a group called the Brothers and Sisters of the Light. This group is a combined force of all illumined beings and includes those beings from which all the world’s religions and spiritual paths have originated. Previously they were in the formless world but came into the world of form so they could assist us in the development, teaching and use of Holy Fire® Reiki.
Its expression as a Reiki healing system moves Holy Fire® energy from being an experience that has happened occasionally throughout the past to those fortunate enough to experience it, to being an energy that can be utilized on a regular basis by anyone initiated as a Holy Fire® Reiki Master. This training takes place in the Usui/Holy Fire® ART/Master and Holy Fire® Karuna Reiki® Master courses. The energy is also present in the Usui/Holy Fire® versions of Reiki I and II.
I first experienced Holy Fire® Reiki energy on January 23, 2014, when Janice channelled the energy from Jesus. I presented it to my Reiki Master class a few days later, and the students indicated that they experienced it to be stronger healing energy and guided by a higher level of consciousness than which any of them had previously experienced.
Our Licensed Reiki Master Teachers received the ability to use this energy during attunements with myself and also directly in sessions with Janice Jones. They also agreed that there was a perceptible improvement in the quality and strength of their Reiki energy. Each began using this energy in sessions and teaching it to students. At this time, the energy was part of the attunement process for the Master level only. Subsequently, the word attunement was changed to Ignition as it appeared that the flame of the Holy Fire® energy was ignited within the student during the attunement.
In December 2015, through instruction by Jesus received through Janice, the system acquired the ability to use this energy during Reiki I and II attunements. Because each student appeared to have the energy placed within them, the term for this process changed from attunement to Placement. At this point, it was noted that the overall effectiveness of the Holy Fire® energy had increased for all levels of instruction; because of this, we began calling the system Holy Fire® II.
Holy Fire® III
During spiritual healing sessions with Colleen Benelli, who is one of our LRMTs and has extensive training in shamanism and who also received training from Janice, I began receiving information that something new was coming to my Reiki practice, although what it was wasn't exactly explained. In addition, when contemplating the Reiki classes I was going to conduct at Mount Kurama in Japan, which is the sacred mountain where Usui Sensei had a spiritual experience and was given the gift of Reiki, I was shown that something very important would take place there.
Then on September 21, 2018, while conducting those classes, a new level of Holy Fire® energy appeared. Colleen provided guidance from Jesus that I was to teach these classes differently. Rather than provide a pre-Ignition as is done in the Holy Fire® II classes, I was to change it to a regular Ignition for a total of four Ignitions rather than three as was previously done.
The Ignition is conducted by the teacher who provides a short, guided meditation lasting five to seven minutes or so and then stops talking while gentle music plays in the background. This process allows the Ignition energy to interact directly with the student’s energy field rather than being channeled through the teacher. The whole experience continues for about 26 minutes altogether.
After conducting the guided meditation for the first Ignition and sitting there, allowing the process to proceed for the students without my interaction, I began to inwardly observe a tube of translucent white light through which stars were moving up through it. Then I saw that this tube was coming from a ball of translucent white light within myself. I also saw an arc of light coming from the surface of the ball of light, and I felt the spiritual power the ball of light contained. Then I was invited to enter into the ball of light. When I did this, at first, I felt pain. But the light said to let go, as this is just your Culturally Created Self being released. When I let go, the pain disappeared, and I felt peace and a great depth of spiritual power. At that point, I said to myself, “I am Free, I am Free, Forevermore, I am Free.”
I must say that this was one of the most powerful spiritual experiences I have had. In addition, when this was happening, I also observed that the three Holy Fire® flames which were installed below the navel, above the head and in the heart during my first Holy Fire® training were joined together by a shaft of light. Then eventually, they expanded and filled my entire physical body. The effects of this experience lasted for a week or so during which I traveled to Taiwan and taught an Usui/Holy Fire® III ART/Master class. Then slowly the energy seemed to subside. But then at the end of October, while teaching, it ramped up again then subsided. However, these experiences left a residual effect, and I can tell they are conditioning my system to adjust to a higher spiritual energy which will remain steadily present. I was also told that these “peak” experiences will continue.
Up to this point, which is the first week of November, 2018, I have taught eight Holy Fire® III classes. In addition, some of my students have taught, and also our LRMTs who were upgraded to Holy Fire® III have also taught classes. Altogether there have been about 200 students who have received the Holy Fire® III energy so far. Many of these students have been Reiki Masters for years and have extensive experience taking Reiki classes, teaching and giving sessions. The effects of the energy reported by these students and those of the other teachers have been consistent. All indicate that the Reiki energy is more effective. Those who had Holy Fire® II report that Holy Fire® III is a definite improvement over what they previously had. Many report that the energy feels both subtle and more powerful and that new healing is taking place, often on an extraordinary level.
As we have experienced Holy Fire® III, a new set of concepts have been given to us to explain the energy and the levels of healing that are taking place. The following is a description of the main ideas.
The Authentic Self
Within each person resides a compelling and extraordinary aspect of our inner nature that is composed of the pure, unaltered self. This part is connected directly to God-consciousness and possesses the awareness and power of the Universe. It is unlimited in its ability to know and to do, and it is who we really are. (Note that psychology also uses the term, “Authentic Self” and while there is some similarity, our definition has important differences.)
The energy of the Holy Fire® III Reiki class ignites and reveals the light of the Authentic Self, making it easier for a person to see and experience. Students find that their light, their wholeness and brilliance, is right there inside them. To some, the view of their Authentic Self has appeared as a beautiful light within; as brilliant as the sun. The remarkable qualities of their soul, life purpose, and their inner truth become revealed to them, and in addition, they feel they are now empowered to fulfill their life purpose!
The influx of Holy Fire® III energy is a special experience that feels safe, steady and grounded. Rather than being aware of one’s Authentic Self in an altered state or as something happening in a high and distant place, it is experienced as being present within one’s physical body and as part of one’s everyday life.
One’s personality, ego, emotions, and thoughts rise to a higher level of consciousness so that one can view life with heightened awareness and enjoyment. Innovation, intuition, inventiveness, creativity, and solutions are more readily available and expressed in one’s intentions, goals, decisions and actions.
After the process makes the Authentic Self visible to one’s inner awareness, the process continues to develop and further highlight its attributes. These include qualities such as intellect, talents, identity, authority and voice, as well as spirituality, personality and more.
Unfortunately, most people have little connection to their Authentic Selves. One of the reasons for this is the development of, and identification with, the Culturally-Created Self.
The Culturally-Created Self
When a person is born, he or she is dependent on his or her parents for food, shelter, clothing and physical contact; everything necessary to support the life of the child. This dependence creates a strong relationship between the child and its parents and forms the basis for the development of the child’s identity. The influence of the parents also teaches the child what is important in life and what is not.
While the young child usually has some awareness of the Authentic Self, the parents often discourage its expression because they do not have contact with nor understand their own Authentic Selves. And because of the influence of the parents and exposure to the everyday world around it, the child is encouraged to develop a personality based on cultural conditioning. And so, as the child grows and matures, he or she comes to identify more and more completely with the Culturally-Created Self. And as this happens, awareness of the Authentic Self fades until in many people, there is little or no awareness of it at all. The Culturally-Created Self has a limited view of who it is and what it can accomplish, and by comparison to the Authentic Self, possesses greatly diminished awareness.
Origin of Dormant Unhealed Energy
As a child grows into adulthood, it often becomes apparent to him or her that they exhibit behaviors that are not considered acceptable by adults. These behaviors can include angry shouting and screaming, crying, pouting, fearful shaking and so forth. Insecurity, anger, jealousy, impatience, selfishness, fear, sadness or other similar feelings are often a cause of these behaviors. If parents do not show the child how to handle these feelings in a healthy way and instead, as is often the case, tell the child, “Stop that!” or “Don’t act that way!” over time, the child learns to push these feelings inside and hold them in place, and they are unexpressed.
Also, many times when children suppress their feelings, they are rewarded by the parents telling them, “Good girl!” or “Good boy!” or they hear their parents tell other adults to look at what a good boy or good girl he or she is or other similar words. These actions reinforce the child’s behavior of hiding feelings and encourage the child to deny that they have such feelings at all. Eventually, as this process develops, these “unwanted” feelings begin to be held inside automatically by conditioning that takes place in the subconscious mind and because of this, they are never expressed.
This pattern of behavior can develop to the point where the person does not know they have these feelings. Because these feelings are unknown, the person no longer gives them energy and instead, directs their awareness toward what society considers to be positive qualities and develops the expression of those feelings instead. When unhealthy feelings do not receive energy or attention, over time, they become dormant.
In addition, the unhealed dormant parts reduce a person’s ability to experience feelings and emotions and reduce the ability to respond in an effective way to the challenges of life. A person becomes less flexible and is not as creative in their ability to solve problems, in being productive, or in finding enjoyment in life. In other words, the unhealed dormant parts limit the persons ability to enjoy the full range of healthy, positive feelings that they would otherwise experience.
Because a person isn’t aware of the unhealed dormant parts, they are not motivated to heal them. In addition, these parts are unusually difficult to heal and up to this point, regular Reiki energy or other healing methods have difficulty discovering them, therefore, they are rarely healed.
These unhealed dormant parts build up in layers that cover up the Authentic Self and often create a thick hard shell that prevents the Authentic Self from being known to the person or expressing its amazing potential. Experiences from this lifetime as well as past lives, ancestral history and cellular memory, to name a few, can cause the buildup of unhealed dormant layers that block our Authentic Self from being seen and therefore stop it from contributing to the quality of our lives. The unhealed dormant parts present a great challenge to our healing process. However, there is a solution.
Holy Fire® III Heals Dormant Unhealed Parts
Holy Fire® III Reiki originates from higher dimensions of consciousness that we call heavens. In the fourth and fifth heavens, the levels of consciousness there are aware of the dormant parts and can heal them, and as healing happens, more of the Authentic Self can emerge. As this occurs, an increasing level of serenity, vitality and joy expresses itself, accompanied by an awareness that this is who you really are.
Joining People Together
Holy Fire® III contains the fire of unity. Its purpose is to unify all people. As one becomes ever more aware of the Authentic Self and begins to assume it as one’s identity, it becomes apparent that everyone has an Authentic Self within them and because of this, it is easily seen that we are all one. The awareness that we are all one makes it easy to accept others regardless of the diversity of race, religion or beliefs, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or age. In this way, we can more easily work in harmony with all people to create peace and happiness in the world.
Interestingly, the promotion of this process is the purpose of the World Peace Crystal Grids which were placed at the North Pole in 1997, at the South Pole in 1999 and in the Old City of Jerusalem in 2004. There is also one at the ICRT Center in Michigan and one at the ICRT Center on Maui; they have been described in greater detail in previous issues of the Reiki News and on our web site at reiki.org. The inscription on the Peace Grids reads, “May the followers of all religions and spiritual paths work together to create peace among all people on Earth.” It is felt that this proclamation which is also embedded in the energy of Holy Fire® III has already started to influence the people of our planet and is destined to bring the peace to our world which so many have prayed for and worked to create for thousands of years.
Location of Holy Fire® III Energy
In the Holy Fire® and Holy Fire® II Master classes, the energy consists of three spiritual flames; one below the navel, one above the head and one in the heart. In the Holy Fire® III Master class, if one already has Holy Fire®, a shaft of light first joins the three flames together and then the energy spreads throughout the entire body sometimes appearing as thousands of small flames. This action takes place gradually over a period of weeks or a month or more. If one has not previously taken a Holy Fire® Reiki Master class and takes the Holy Fire® III Master class, the energy will simply spread as small flames throughout the entire body. As this happens, it grounds the experience in present time and in the material world, making the experience feel very real.
The healed ego is a vehicle for the expression of higher consciousness in the material world!
Four Ignitions
Previously in the Holy Fire® system, students received three ignitions. In the Holy Fire® III class, an Ignition now replaces the pre-Ignition for a total of four Ignitions. Also, there is an enhancement in the effectiveness of each Ignition.
We are alive because the life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
All healers use life force or Ki, but not all use Reiki. Reiki is a special kind of life force that can only be channelled by someone that has been attuned to it. It is possible that some people are born with Reiki or have gotten it some other way. However, most healers who have not received the Reiki attunement from a Reiki Master are not using Reiki but another kind of life force. People who already do healing work consistently report an increase of at least fifty percent in the strength of their healing energies after taking the Reiki training.
This was verified for me when I first began teaching Reiki. There were two clairvoyant healers I knew who had highly developed abilities. They could easily see the life force flowing through a person's body, as well as see the aura and chakras. They could also communicate with a person's guides and Higher Self. They were adept at moving negative psychic energy out of the body as well as channelling healing energies. In my twenty years of metaphysical work, they were the most accurate and effective psychic healers I had met.
They told me later they had doubted there was anything I was teaching they couldn't already do, but that they took the Reiki training anyway, simply to support me in my new work. After the attunement, they were amazed at the difference they could feel between the healing energies they had been using and Reiki. They said the Reiki energies were more powerful and of a much higher frequency. They noted also that Reiki didn't have to be guided like the other healing energies they were using, and that the Reiki energies began flowing without having to enter an altered state. They also indicated the attunement process itself was a powerful healing experience, releasing restrictions relating to their healing work they had unknowingly acquired when they were healers in past lives. They were very pleased they had taken the class.
Because Reiki is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is appropriate for them. One never need to worry about whether to give Reiki or not. It is always helpful.
In addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner is not in danger of taking on the karma of the client. Because the practitioner is not doing the healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out of the way and allow the presence of God to clearly shine through.
Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's energies are never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive treatment. Because of this, giving a treatment always increases one's energy and leaves one surrounded with loving feelings of well-being.
The ability to learn Reiki is not dependent on intellectual capacity, nor does one have to be able to meditate. It does not take years of practice. It is simply passed on from the teacher to the student. As soon as this happens, one has and can do Reiki. Because of this, it is easily learned by anyone.
Reiki is a pure form of healing not dependent on individual talent or acquired ability. Because of this, the personality of the healer is less likely to cloud the significance of the experience. The feeling of being connected directly to God's healing love and protection is clearly apparent.
Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught. It is transferred to the student by the Reiki Master during an attunement process. This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source.
The Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience. The attunement energies are channelled into the student through the Reiki Master. The process is guided by the Rei or God-consciousness and makes adjustments in the process depending on the needs of each student. The attunement is also attended by Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who help implement the process. Many report having mystical experiences involving personal messages, healings, visions, and past life experiences.
The attunement can also increase psychic sensitivity. Students often report experiences involving: the opening of the third eye, increased intuitive awareness, and other psychic abilities after receiving a Reiki attunement.
Once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will have Reiki for the remainder of your life. It does not wear off and you can never lose it. While one attunement is all you need for each level to be attuned to that level, additional attunements bring benefit. Experimentation has found that additional attunements of the same level add to the value of that level. These benefits include refinement of the Reiki energy one is channeling, increased strength of the energy, healing of personal problems, clarity of mind, increased psychic sensitivity, and a raised level of consciousness. At the Reiki support groups sponsored by the Center, additional attunements are usually given by someone who has taken Third degree in Reiki, with no extra fee required.
The Reiki attunement can start a cleansing process that affects the physical body as well as the mind and emotions. Toxins that have been stored in the body may be released along with feelings and thought patterns that are no longer useful. Therefore, a process of purification prior to the attunement is recommended to improve the benefit one receives. See below for specific instructions on preparing for an attunement.
In order to improve the results you receive during the attunement, a process of purification is recommended. This will allow the attunement energies to work more efficiently and create greater benefits for you. The following steps are optional. Follow them if you feel guided to do so.
Refrain from eating meat, fowl or fish for three days prior to the attunement. These foods often contain drugs in the form of penicillin and female hormones and toxins in the form of pesticides and heavy metals that make your system sluggish and throw it out of balance.
Consider a water or juice fast for one to three days especially if you already are a vegetarian or have experience with fasting.
Minimize your use of coffee and caffeine drinks or stop completely. They create imbalances in the nervous and endocrine systems. Use no caffeine drinks on the day of the attunement.
Use no alcohol for at least three days prior to the attunement.
Minimize or stop using sweets. Eat no chocolate.
If you smoke, cut back, and smoke as little as possible on the day of the attunement.
Meditate an hour a day for a least a week using a style you are familiar with or simply spend this time in silence.
Reduce or eliminate time watching TV, listening to the radio, and reading newspapers.
Go for quiet walks, spend time with nature, and get moderate exercise.
Give more attention to the subtle impressions and sensations within and around; contemplate their meaning.
Release all anger, fear, jealousy, hate, worry, etc. up to the light. Create a sacred space within and around you.
By receiving an attunement you will become part of a group of people who are using Reiki to heal themselves, and each other, and who are working together to heal the Earth. You will also be receiving help from Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who are also working towards these goals. While Reiki is not a religion, you may prepare your mind with the intention to work and pray in a religious mode comfortable to you to prepare to open to higher spiritual energies and experiences.
This class combines lecture, discussion, attunements (placements), meditations and experiential practice in a well-organized, but relaxed program. Level 1 teaches the use of Reiki for self-healing, and Level 2 teaches the use of Reiki on others.
This beginning training is one of the most thorough and comprehensive available. It includes both Reiki I & II and is a combination of the Western-style as introduced by Mrs. Takata, the Japanese Reiki Techniques and the Holy Fire® healing energy. On completion of the class, you will be able to give Reiki treatments to yourself and others. The following subjects are taught:
The origin and history of Reiki
The nature of Reiki energy, why people get sick and how Reiki heals
The Reiki Ideals
The Human Energy System
The complete hand placement system
Gassho meditation
Byosen Scanning: Using the sensitivity in the hands to locate areas needing healing, (usually in the aura) and to treat them
Reiji-Ho: Using inner guidance to know how and where to treat
Kenyoku: Dry bathing, a method to purify your energy field
Gyoshi-ho: Sending Reiki with the eyes
Sending Reiki at a distance
Reiki II symbols: How to draw, activate and use them. Their many uses are explained and their inner meaning is discussed. Practice time is given so students know from experience how the energy of each symbol feels and the results each symbol produces
Placements for I & II
Preparation videos from the instructors through the online course platform
A 7-day energy cleansing program/course to prepare for the placement/attunement
21-day post-course program & support
Lifelong support from your Reiki Masters
A 178-page manual and a certificate are included.
ART refers to Advanced Reiki Training and is usually taught in combination with the Master training.
The Master training combines the complete Usui/Holy Fire® III Master training into an online 3-session/module class which is usually taught over a three-week span. See individual class pages for class times.
To qualify to take this class, a student must have taken Reiki I&II and practiced Reiki II for at least six months. Also, a student must be able to draw the three symbols from Reiki II from memory.

Karuna is a Sanskrit word and is also used in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is translated to mean any action that is taken to diminish the suffering of others and could also be translated as "compassionate action." When individuals experience enlightenment, they report that all beings are known as one. Therefore, it is natural to extend compassionate action or Karuna to everyone without distinction because we are all one. As we help others and aid them in their healing process, all beings benefit. Because of the oneness of all beings, it is understood that Karuna is not only extended to others out of love, but also because it is an entirely logical thing to do. In the same way that you would want to heal your own wounds, you would also want the wounds of others to heal. It is also stated in the Buddhist literature that Karuna must be accompanied by prajna or wisdom in order to have the right effect.
Karuna is the motivating quality of all enlightened beings (also called the Brothers and Sisters of the Light) who are working to end suffering on Earth. They continually send an unlimited amount of healing energy and guidance to us, but not all are receptive to it. As you develop Karuna in yourself, not only are you helping others, but you also become more receptive to the Karuna that is being sent by the supreme being. Thus, your healing is quickened as well. Karuna Reiki® opens you to work more closely with the supreme being
The Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki® Master Teacher Class
You must have been a Reiki Master for at least six months to take Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki® Master training.
Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki® Training
This class is the next step after Reiki Master and is both a practitioner and a Master class. Those who take the class will be able to use the Karuna symbols in their Reiki sessions and teach all levels of Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki®. You will also be able to teach Reiki I&II and Reiki Master as Holy Fire® III classes. Karuna Reiki® is complete with eight practitioner symbols, one Master symbol, four Ignitions and two meditations that are guided directly by the Holy Fire® consciousness.
Holy Fire® III
In this Master class, you will learn to give Placements which are Ignition like experiences for Reiki I&II and the first part of Reiki Master. (Placements and Ignitions are the same as attunements.) The Placement system provides a more effective level of Reiki for the student and also empowers the symbols with more effective healing energy. A certificate and a 142-page manual are included.
Both levels of Karuna Reiki® and four Ignitions will be given as well as instruction and practice on the use of all nine symbols. You will be able to teach both levels after taking this class.
Lots of practice time is included for giving treatments and using the symbols.
We will also be doing chanting and toning with the Karuna Reiki® symbols.
Instruction on how to give Placements for Reiki I and II and Ignitions for Reiki Master and Karuna Master.
Come network with other Reiki Masters from all over the country and often other parts of the world! This is an exciting workshop with lots of dedicated, high-energy people.
A certificate and a manual are included with in-depth descriptions of each symbol and each Ignition process.
Practicing and Teaching Karuna Reiki®
The Karuna symbols can be used just like other Reiki symbols when giving Reiki sessions. When teaching, the whole method is taught in one 3-day weekend as described above. This is possible because the requirement to take the class is to have been a Reiki Master for a minimum of 6 months. This prior training requirement allows students to receive the ability to use each of the symbols in Reiki sessions and the ability to teach the complete system to others. Also, you’ll be shown how to give the Usui/Holy Fire® III Placements for Reiki I&II and Master. The Master class uses Ignitions which you will be empowered to give in your classes. This means that after taking this class, you and your students will be able to teach all levels of Reiki as Holy Fire® III classes.
In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 90 minutes. In an online/distance treatment, the client would sit or lay down in a comfortable position and prepare to receive Reiki via distance. The treatment usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.
Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign.
Mrs. Hawayo Takata (Takata Sensei) brought Reiki from Japan to the West in 1937 and continued to practice and teach until her passing in 1980. Because of her devotion, Reiki has been passed on to millions of people all over the world, and the numbers continue to grow! And as you will see, if it wasn’t for her, Reiki most likely would never have been discovered by the West and even in Japan would have been practiced secretly by only a small number of people.
Although Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion. Practitioners are not asked to change any religious or spiritual beliefs they may have. They are free to continue believing anything they choose and are encouraged to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices.
Reiki is a very simple technique to learn and is not dependent on one having any prior experience with healing, meditation or any other kind of training. It has been successfully learned by over one million people from all walks of life, both young an old. The reason it is so easy to learn that it is not taught in the usual way something is taught. The ability to do Reiki is simply transferred from the teacher to the student through a process called an attunement that takes place during a Reiki class. As soon as one receives an attunement, they have the ability to do Reiki and after that whenever one places their hands on themselves or on another person with the intention of doing Reiki, the healing energy will automatically begin flowing.
A Reiki attunement is the process by which a person receives the ability to give Reiki treatments. The attunement is administered by the Reiki Master during the Reiki class. During the attunement, the Reiki Master will touch the students head, shoulders, and hands and use one or more special breathing techniques. The attunement energies will flow through the Reiki Master and into the student. These special energies are guided by the Higher Power and make adjustments in the students energy pathways and connect the student to the source of Reiki. Because the energetic aspect of the attunement is guided by the Higher Power, it adjusts itself to be exactly right for each student. During the attunement, some students feel warmth in the hands, others may see colors or have visions of spiritual beings. However, it is not necessary to have an inner experience for the attunement to have worked. Most simply feel more relaxed.
Yes, Reiki can be taught to anyone. I recommend that a child be old enough to understand what Reiki is and that the child request to receive Reiki.
Yes, this is one of the wonderful benefits of Reiki and is why it is such a wonderful technique for the new millennium...
The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. When translating Japanese into English we must keep in mind that an exact translation is difficult. The Japanese language has many levels of meaning. Therefore the context the word is being used in must be kept in mind when attempting to communicate its essence. Because these words are used in a spiritual healing context, a Japanese/English dictionary does not provide the depth of meaning we seek, as its definitions are based on common everyday Japanese. As an example, Rei is often defined as ghost and Ki as vapor and while these words vaguely point in the direction of meaning we seek, they fall far short of the understanding that is needed.
